Oooh

Oh yeah…Friday evening was fun. :-DDD

I got home from work at 4:30pm – took myself to the village shop and purchased a Daily Mirror and a Barnsley Chronicle. Then using all my skill and cunning, ventured into the Three Horseshoes public house and read them both over a nice cold pint of Magners.

It took me an hour.

The wife is out tonight. Going to a post-work presentation of some description so to compensate I am going to do it again. Only this time I might take a book too. I can become one of those mysterious people that sit at the bar all afternoon looking solemn.

Last night the wife and I went for a quick walk and ended up getting trapped in a field. There’s loads of undeveloped land round Brierley. We walked through woods, crossed little streams (complete with Trolley Fish), spotted badger tracks and dreamt up a plan to raid all the bramble bushes of their unpicked brambles and make and sell bramble jam. It was very pleasant.

As we passed the village club, a gentleman with weather worn features came out. He smiled at us, we smiled at him, the wife said “Good afternoon”; our curmudgeonly friend replied “London’s that way”. Now quite why the gentleman thought it necessary to inform us of this fact is a mystery. I thought it a weak attempt at “You’re not local. So sod off”; the wife thought it was just weak humour. Maybe he was just being helpful and thought we didn’t know where London was. (Turn left at the end of our road, follow the bypass through Barnsley until you get to the M1 then its turn right or left at the M25 depending on which part of London you want to go to).
