Last night the wife and I used our destructive skills to remove the polystyrene tiles from the hallway. Only another 6 rooms to go….All I can say is the 70’s have a lot to answer for…polystyrene indeed. Fashionable…not

Surprisingly my ADSL connection was still on when I got home from work. In fact it managed to remain connected for a staggering 18 hours straight. 8pm came and went without a peep. I may have been wrong about the BT man after all. But it still doesn’t explain the reasoning behind the almost clockwork precision dropping connection. Perhaps it was the removing the polystyrene tiles that did it….

Answers to yesterday’s poll.

Everyone did really well. They were either really easy or people cheated.

1 – Pink shrimps served on a bed of lettuce in a dressing topped compotier is Prawn or Shrimp Cocktail
2 – Pureéd stewed vegetables in a light herb stock is of course Vegetable Soup
3 – Paste of Inner Duck with crunchy grilled bread easy one this Duck Liver Pate but I accepted duck paté
4 – Veil tuna served a selection of oiled green leaves cocked this one up spelling wise but it was Tuna Salad
5 – Fruit de la mer presented in cases served with a foam of garlic, wine and curdled milk was of course Mussels in a garlic and white wine cream sauce
6 – Sautéd chicken Menses served on a bed of crisp potato shards – Chicken periods? That’ll be Egg & chips
7 – Filo Pastry wrapped braised steak with wild fungi and served on a bed of salt seasoned sautéd Maris Piper accompanied by a stout and red onion jus my favourite, Steak and mushroom pie, chips and ale gravy
8 – Steamed hock of pig with macerated King Edwards, steamed greens and petit pois Steamed Pig? must be Gammon…macerated Spuds? That’ll be mash then so it’s Gammon, mash cabbage and peas.
9 – Lightly griddled Gadus morhua with strips of fried desiree served with petit pois – How’s your latin? how about Fish chips & peas?
10 – Tubuals of sweet meats in a triturate of Royal Edwards served with a meat and onion jus If I fancied Sausage, mash and gravy I’d order this
11 – Crumbled beef steak with jalepeno peppers, plum tomatoes and spices served with a rice coddle. – Minced beef & chillies? Chilli con carne
12 – Browned Cheese and grilled tomatos served on a toasted wheat bed with Sauce au Worcester that’ll be Cheese & tomato on toast with worcester sauce

Personally I’d be happy with prawn cocktail and the steak and ale pie (or Stale and ale Pie as zoefruitcake said)
