Poem: Old Friends.

An older man sitting at a desk looking at a computer screen and photo frame showing two younger men smiling and holding beer bottles

Do you remember me?
Like I remember you?
Do you search my name
On Google too?

Or have you forgotten
How we used to be
When we shared times together?
Or is it just me?

Well it’s been a while,
And I’ve left lots of clues,
In case you look me up,
Or see me in the news.

But I guess you haven’t
Or you’d have said hello
Or perhaps there’s something
I didn’t know

Perhaps you’ve died
Or gone away
Maybe you’re reading this
In abject dismay

Maybe you pause a moment,
Then quietly move on,
Like finding an old photograph
Whose meaning now is gone.

Perhaps you’ve changed
Your point of view
Packed away the memories
Like people often do

Still, sometimes I wonder
When quiet moments start
If my name still passes
Some small forgotten part

And it really doesn’t matter
If the years have seen us through
Then I’ll leave these words behind
The way old memories do
